Vineya is the first online marketplace of certified ASL interpreters for the deaf and hearing. In looking for our inspiration for Vineya we turn to Martha's Vineyard, a place with a special history. When Martha first came to America from Sierra Leone, she was both excited and overwhelmed. But thanks to CSD's human services programs, Martha was able to find a place to grow. One of those programs is CSD's Adult Basic Education (ABE) classes, which helps prepare students for U.S. citizenship. By fostering a direct communication environment, CSD was able to help empower Martha to both gain citizenship, and make a difference in others' lives like hers.
We see a world where communication is open and transparent. A world where every deaf person can interact freely with others. It's not simply a far-fetched dream, it's our vision for the future. It's why CSD exists, and why we come to work every single day. CSD has always belonged to the community, and this vision belongs to you.
Over 90% of deaf parents have hearing children, and it's an all-too-familiar scenario when these parents are forced to use their children to interpret for them. Meet Mandi and her parents. Like you, they try to do the right thing but ultimately deserve better.
All deaf people who use ASL Interpreting services deserve the best in sign language interpreting. We are always working to make sure the quality of our service is at its best. Team Interpreting is one way we make sure we're delivering a top experience for our clients, but it is also a means for our interpreters to provide support to one another.
CSD Interpreting is one of the largest sign language interpreting services for the deaf and hard of hearing in the United States, and our service is made possible by our amazing interpreters. Just like you, our interpreters believe that Quality Matters every single time we interpret.
Together, our historic march as a community towards achieving equal access and fair opportunity is a rich story of determination, resiliency, and devotion. Still, we know our important work must continue. We understand that, together, we have the ability to go higher and farther than ever before. And we believe...more is possible.
In 2010, Communication Service for the Deaf, Inc. (CSD) received a $14.9M grant to expand broadband adoption among people who are deaf and hard of hearing and provide them with online tools to more fully participate in the digital economy. This is what we accomplished.
Here at CSD, we have been experimenting with using Google Glass to deliver a new communications platform for video interpreting. Watch this video to see how we have been using Google Glass to provide interpreting services, and what some of the lessons we learned and are working to overcome so we can bring Video Interpreting through Google Glass to you!
Project Endeavor was made possible through the $15M Broadband Technology Opportunities Program, which has changed countless lives. This is the story of Isaac and his family, a story on the power of technology and how these tools can change lives. Isaac's story is one of many made possible through Project Endeavor.
